Hiawatha National Forest Forest Road 2246 Dispersed Sites

Dispersed Camping

Forest Road 2246 offers several pull-offs and informal camping spots scattered along a 3-mile stretch through mixed hardwood forest. Sites are basic clearings that can handle one or two rigs, with minimal impact on the surrounding woodland. The road parallels several small unnamed lakes and marshes, making it popular with hunters during deer season. No facilities or marked sites — you’ll find spots by driving slowly and looking for established clearings.

Access requires high-clearance due to seasonal washouts and occasional fallen trees. The road can be muddy in spring and after heavy rains. Winter access is snowmobile-only. Sites fill quickly during hunting seasons in fall.
