Gold Butte National Monument — Little Finland Road Dispersed Camp

The approach road to Little Finland (also called Hobgoblin’s Playground) winds through classic Mojave desert terrain on BLM land inside Gold Butte National Monument. Dispersed camping is permitted along the corridor on open ground away from the road and formations. You’re looking at red Aztec sandstone eroded into wild fins, knobs, and hoodoos — it’s the kind of place that makes you stop and stare. No developed facilities anywhere. No water, no toilets, no cell signal. Fire pans recommended given the BLM’s seasonal restrictions in this high-fire-risk zone.

Little Finland Road branches off Gold Butte Road and gets rough in sections — rocky two-track that warrants high-clearance and ideally 4WD. The road can be impassable after heavy rain when clay sections turn to grease. This is a genuine backcountry area; full self-sufficiency is required. Distance from Mesquite is approximately 30 miles on a combination of gravel and rough dirt. BLM 14-day stay limit applies throughout the monument.
