Gibb River Road — Adcock River Gorge Dispersed Camp

The Adcock River crossing sits roughly halfway along the Gibb River Road and has been a natural overnight pull-off for travellers since the road became a recognised 4WD route. You’re camping in open savanna woodland on the sandy banks of the Adcock — red rock walls close in upstream, paperbarks line the water, and kite hawks work the thermals overhead. No facilities whatsoever. Space for a handful of rigs if you’re staggered along the bank.

Access is 4WD only — the crossing itself can run thigh-deep in a wet year and is completely impassable outside dry season. Come June through September for reliable conditions. No permit required for roadside dispersed camping in this corridor, but respect any signage regarding Aboriginal land. Water from the river must be treated. Fly pressure is real from mid-morning — set up early or embrace the head net.
