Bell Gorge — Kimberley Tiered Waterfall and Swimming Hole
Bell Gorge is the real deal. A short walk from the Silent Grove campground area drops you into a series of sandstone ledges where water cascades through two distinct tiers into a deep, cold swimming hole. The rock formations are ancient and layered, the colour contrast between the red stone and turquoise water is genuinely dramatic, and on a quiet morning before the tour buses roll through, it feels like you’ve got the whole Kimberley to yourself. Dry season only — the track in floods out completely in the Wet.
Access is via a signed 4WD track off the Gibb River Road, roughly 8 km from the Silent Grove turnoff. The final approach is rocky and corrugated — nothing that’ll sort a stock 4WD, but don’t take a 2WD. Go early if you want solitude. Crocs are not a documented issue here but don’t camp at the water’s edge and use common sense in any Kimberley waterway.
Tiered falls, cold deep pool, red Kimberley stone.
