Ferdinand State Forest Dispersed Area
This working forest allows dispersed camping throughout its boundaries, with fire roads and logging trails providing access to secluded spots in the hills. Most campers find level ground along the ridges or in small clearings near old logging sites. No facilities whatsoever — pack it all in, pack it all out. Fire restrictions apply during dry periods, and hunting seasons bring orange-clad crowds in fall.
Main access is via Forest Road 10 off Highway 162, but dozens of unmarked two-tracks branch off deeper into the woods. High-clearance helps on the rougher spurs, though most fire roads handle any vehicle. Check with the state forest office in Ferdinand for current conditions and any temporary closures during timber operations.
