Spring Mill State Park Pioneer Village
This living history village sits in a limestone valley where Hamer Cave’s underground river once powered a working community. The restored gristmill still operates on water power, grinding corn meal you can buy. Cave tours run seasonally into the underground river system that feeds the mill. It’s a solid break from trail running and the kids love watching the massive millstone turn.
The cave tours require separate tickets and fill up on weekends. Village is free to walk through if you’re camping in the park. Makes a good base camp for hitting the technical routes in nearby Hoosier National Forest — hot showers after a muddy day on German Ridge.
