Eureka Dunes

These massive singing dunes create an otherworldly landscape in one of Death Valley’s most isolated corners. The tallest sand dune in California, Eureka Dunes stretch nearly three miles long and tower 680 feet above the surrounding valley floor. The dunes ‘sing’ when conditions are right — a low-frequency hum caused by cascading sand that can be heard for miles.

Access requires 44 miles of graded dirt road from Big Pine, with the last 10 miles becoming progressively rougher. High-clearance vehicles recommended, though passenger cars can make it in dry conditions. No facilities exist here — bring everything you need. The area sees very few visitors, making it perfect for solitude seekers willing to venture off the beaten path.
