Enchanted Rock Summit Trail
The Summit Trail climbs 425 feet up the pink granite face of Enchanted Rock, the largest exposed batholith in the United States. The 1.6-mile round trip follows a marked route up the steep granite slope to panoramic views of the Hill Country. The dome’s surface is mostly bare rock with scattered pools that hold water after rains, creating unique desert island ecosystems.
The trailhead is located at the main parking area inside Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. Park entry requires advance reservations on weekends and holidays – the park regularly sells out. Start early to avoid crowds and heat, especially in summer. The granite can be slippery when wet and scorching hot in afternoon sun. Wear shoes with good grip and bring plenty of water.
