Chobe National Park — Savute Marsh Edge Dispersed Camp

The Savute Marsh in Chobe National Park is one of Botswana’s most legendary wildlife corridors — a seasonally flooded plain fed by the erratic Savute Channel, drawing massive elephant herds, predators, and vast bird life. Dispersed camping here sits within designated park zones along the marsh edge, accessed via the sandy, corrugated track running south from Savute Camp through the Gubatsa Hills area. Expect deep sand, no fences, no facilities, and animals walking through camp at night. This is proper bush — you’re in it, not looking at it through a fence.

Access requires a 4WD with recovery gear and sufficient fuel from Kasane or Maun — there is no fuel at Savute. All camping within Chobe National Park requires a valid park entry permit and must be booked through Botswana’s Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) or their online concession system. Self-sufficient rigs only. Dry season (May–October) is the window; wet season roads can become impassable.
