Gubatsa Hills — Chobe National Park Volcanic Outcrops Viewpoint

The Gubatsa Hills are a cluster of ancient volcanic and granite outcrops punching up from the flat pan country of the Mababe Depression, sitting directly along the Savute Channel road corridor inside Chobe National Park. They’re modest in height but dramatic in context — surrounded by dead-flat mopane scrub and fossil floodplain, these hills stand out hard. Elephant trails criss-cross the base and big herds work the water sources nearby. Game viewing here is legitimate: lion, wild dog, and massive elephant concentrations use these hills as a landmark.

No facilities, no signage, no camp. You’re inside a national park — access is by 4WD only, and you need a valid DWNP park entry permit. Road surface into this area is sandy Kalahari track with deep ruts after rain. Dry season (May–October) only for most vehicles. Park fees apply at the gate; no wild camping without a designated site permit.
