Deka Safari Area — Kennedy Vleis Seasonal Pan Dispersed Camp
Kennedy Vleis is a series of seasonal clay pans and shallow wetlands inside the Deka Safari Area, directly along the Nzou Game Track route between Hwange Main Camp and Sinamatella. When the pans hold water after good rains, the wildlife concentration here is genuinely wild — elephant, buffalo, lion, and sable use this corridor hard. You’re sleeping in open mopane and teak woodland with no fences, no infrastructure, and no one coming to help you. Self-sufficient only. Carry all water, fuel, and recovery gear.
Access is via the designated game track, typically negotiable in high-clearance 4WD. Track conditions deteriorate badly in the wet season (November–April) — deep black cotton soil will eat rigs. Dry season (May–October) is the window. ZPWMA park fees apply; obtain permits at Hwange Main Camp or Sinamatella before entry. No fires during dry season without warden approval.
Elephant country pans, zero infrastructure.
