Cathedral Gorge State Park Campground
This 22-site campground sits among Nevada’s most striking badlands, where million-year-old lake sediments have eroded into cathedral-like spires and narrow slot canyons. The bentonite clay formations glow gold and red at sunrise and sunset, creating an otherworldly landscape. Sites are well-spaced with fire rings and tables, though shade is minimal — bring a canopy for summer visits. The park’s network of trails leads through slot canyons barely wide enough to squeeze through, including the popular Miller Point Trail and Cathedral Caves.
Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, making spring and fall the prime seasons. Water is available but scarce during dry periods — carry extra for drinking and cooking. The dirt access road is fine for any vehicle in dry conditions but can become impassable when wet. No cell service adds to the remote desert experience.
