Buffalo Gap National Grassland Table Mountain Dispersed Area
Eight to ten sites scattered across rolling prairie at the base of Table Mountain, each offering 360-degree views across the mixed-grass prairie. Sites are just flat spots in the grassland with worn fire rings — bring everything including firewood since there’s no wood for miles. Prairie dog towns chirp and bark all around, and the night sky is spectacular with zero light pollution.
Access via County Road 359 from Interior, then 6 miles of maintained gravel ranch road. Any vehicle handles it fine except during spring mud season or after heavy rains when it gets slick. Wind is constant — stake everything down. Popular during Sturgis week, otherwise you’ll likely have it to yourself.
