BLM Panoche Hills Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

The Panoche Hills rise from the western San Joaquin Valley offering dispersed camping on BLM lands with panoramic valley views. Spring brings spectacular wildflower blooms when winter rains cooperate, making this a sought-after destination for photographers and botanists. Sites are scattered along ridge roads and in shallow canyons. No shade or water — bring everything you need for dry camping.

Access via Panoche Road from I-5 or Highway 198, then follow various dirt roads into BLM territory. Roads are suitable for most vehicles in dry conditions but become treacherous when wet. Best visited March through May for wildflowers and comfortable temperatures. Summer heat can be brutal with little shade available.
