BLM Olancha Dunes Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

The Olancha Dunes sit where Highway 395 bends west toward the Sierra crest, offering scattered dispersed sites among low sand hills and sagebrush. The area provides dramatic backdrop views of the southern Sierra Nevada while maintaining the open desert feel overlanders seek. Sites accommodate various rig sizes with plenty of room to spread out, though weekend OHV traffic can kick up dust and noise.

Access is straightforward via maintained dirt roads off 395, passable by any vehicle in dry conditions. The area stays accessible year-round but can get crowded during cooler months when snowbirds descend on the valley. No services or facilities — pack out everything and bring your own water.
