Belle Campground — Joshua Tree National Park

Belle is a 18-site primitive campground sitting at about 3,800 feet in the eastern section of the park, close to the White Tank area and within reasonable distance of the Lonesome Dove and Lost Horse country. It’s quieter than Jumbo Rocks or Cottonwood, draws a mix of climbers, hikers, and desert overlanders, and has that sparse high-desert feel — scattered Joshua trees, open skies, minimal shade. Pit toilets on-site, no water, no hookups. Fire rings are provided but fire bans are common in warmer months.

Access is paved all the way in off Park Boulevard. First-come, first-served year-round — no reservations taken. At only 18 sites it fills fast on weekends. Zero cell signal. It’s a solid overnight base before pushing deeper into the park’s backcountry roads or staging for the White Tank to Arch Rock area on foot.
