Beavers Bend State Park David Boren Trail

This well-marked trail system winds through some of the most diverse forest in Oklahoma, connecting pine ridges with bottomland hardwoods along the Mountain Fork River. The main loop can be hiked in sections or as a full day adventure, passing through stands of old-growth shortleaf pine and crossing several tributaries on wooden bridges. Elevation changes are modest but consistent, with the best overlooks coming at mile 8 and 12 where you can see into the Ouachita Mountains.

Trailheads are well-signed from the main park road, with the most popular starting point near the Nature Center. Spring wildflowers are spectacular in April, and fall colors peak in late October. The trail can be muddy after heavy rain, especially the river sections. Parking fills up on weekends during peak season.
