Barrancas del Cobre Dispersed Camping Mesa Verde

Dispersed Camping

This elevated camping area sits on a natural mesa at around 7,200 feet, offering spectacular views into the Barrancas del Cobre. Scattered ponderosa pines provide some shade, and there are multiple established fire rings from previous campers. Space for 8-10 rigs comfortably spread out. Gets cold at night year-round due to elevation.

Access via a 6-mile dirt road that’s rough but manageable in high-clearance vehicles. No water source — pack everything you need. Popular with Mexican overlanders on weekends. Fire restrictions often in effect April through June during dry season.
