Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests — Centerfire Creek Road Dispersed Camp
Centerfire Creek drains the northern slope of the Blue Range Primitive Area, and the forest road corridor along it offers legitimate dispersed camping on USFS ground — flat pull-offs screened by ponderosa and Gambel oak, no developed facilities, no fee. This stretch sits well inside the Apache-Sitgreaves and is a realistic overnight for rigs running the Trans-America Trail segment between Clifton and Alpine. Expect solitude except during hunting season (Oct–Nov), when it fills with elk camps. No fire rings — follow the posted restrictions, which go red-flag fast in this country.
Access is via FR 475 and connecting forest roads off US-191 or the Alpine-to-Clifton corridor. Roads are dirt and can get slick after monsoon rain (July–September). High-clearance is advisable; a stock 4WD handles it in dry conditions. Cell service is essentially nonexistent. Pack your water — no developed source on-site. Stay limit is the standard 14-day USFS rule.
Blue Range solitude — no fee, no crowds.
