Allegheny National Forest Jakes Rock Overlook Dispersed Sites
Half a dozen informal camping spots scattered in the woods near Jakes Rock, one of the finest overlooks in the Allegheny region. The dramatic cliff face drops 400 feet to the reservoir below, with views stretching for miles across unbroken forest. Sites are tucked back in the hardwood forest, offering privacy and protection from wind. Fire rings mark the established spots, most big enough for one or two tents or a small RV.
The overlook itself sees heavy day-use traffic, especially on fall weekends, but the camping areas stay relatively quiet. Access via Forest Road 262 is good gravel suitable for any vehicle. Bears are common — hang your food properly. No water available, so bring what you need.
