Browsing the Atlas

How to find trails and places on the map.

The atlas at /atlas/ is the visual front door to every trail and place on the site. Map on the left, filterable list on the right.

The map

Pan and zoom like any web map. Markers cluster at low zoom levels — click a cluster to zoom in until individual markers separate. Click an individual marker for a popup with the name and a link to the full page.

Marker icons indicate the type:

  • Trail markers — show difficulty color (green/blue/black/red [VERIFY]) and a small icon
  • Place markers — emoji icon for the type (⛽ gas, 🏕 camp, 🛏 lodging, etc.)

Filters

The filter panel lets you narrow what shows. Common filters:

  • Type — trails only, places only, or both
  • Difficulty (for trails) — green / blue / black / red [VERIFY]
  • Region — country, state/province
  • Has photos — show only trails with at least one user-submitted photo
  • Recently active — trails with recent condition reports

Filters apply to both the map and the list simultaneously. Clear all filters with the reset button.

Searching

The search box at the top searches trail/place names. It does NOT search through descriptions or condition reports — for that, use the global site search.

Your saved trails and places

Logged-in users see a bookmark icon on every trail and place. Click to save to your personal list, accessible from your account. Saved items are private to you.

Adding to a trip

From any trail or place page, you can Add to trip. If you don’t have a trip in progress, the system prompts you to create one. If you have multiple trips, you choose which one.
