You can browse The Dirty Mule without an account, but most of what makes the site useful — logging runs, planning trips, contributing condition reports — requires you to be logged in.
Signing up
Click the account icon in the top-right corner of any page, then choose Sign up. You’ll need:
- A valid email address (this is how we reach you for trip invites and notifications)
- A username — this becomes your public profile URL, like
/wheelers/your-username/. Choose something you won’t mind seeing on the web for years. You can’t change this later. - A password — at least 8 characters. We recommend a password manager.
Verifying your email
After signing up, check your email for a verification link. Click it to activate your account. If you don’t see the email within a couple of minutes, check spam — and if it’s not there, log in and request a resend.
First time logged in
Once verified, here’s the suggested order:
- Set your privacy preferences. Your profile is private by default. See Privacy Settings.
- Fill in your profile. Display name, location, optional bio. See Building Your Wheeler Profile.
- Add a rig. Even one rig listed makes you immediately recognizable to other wheelers.
None of this is required. You can use the site fully with just an email and a username. But profiles with real rigs and trail history are how the community works.
If you can’t sign up
If sign-up fails with an error about your username, that name is either taken or reserved. Pick another.
If you don’t get the verification email at all, contact us through the site footer. We can help.
