Kobe Campground — Pike-San Isabel National Forest

Kobe Campground sits in a modest stand of pines in South Park on the Pike-San Isabel National Forest, accessed off CO-9 south of Fairplay. It’s a primitive-style developed camp — vault toilets, fire rings, and a handful of sites that rarely fill up except on holiday weekends. The setting is classic high South Park: open sky, big views, cool temps even in July. No drinking water on site, so plan accordingly. Anglers use it as a base for the South Platte drainage, and it works equally well as a staging camp for the Weston Pass corridor a few miles to the west.

Access is easy — paved or well-graded gravel from Fairplay puts it within reach of any rig. It’s quieter and less trafficked than the Eleven Mile Canyon complex to the east, which is part of its appeal. Fire restrictions follow the Pike-San Isabel seasonal schedule — check current conditions with the South Park Ranger District. Season is roughly May through October, though early fall is arguably the best time up here.
