Bealach Mòr — Quinag Summit Road and Assynt Wilderness Viewpoint
The single-track road over Bealach Mòr below Quinag delivers some of the most savage highland scenery in Scotland — ancient Torridonian sandstone stacked against Cambrian quartzite, Loch Glencoul glittering below, and virtually no traffic once you’re clear of the A894. The views northwest toward the Summer Isles and south toward Suilven and Canisp are the kind that make you pull over and just sit for a while. No facilities, no fences, no crowds outside summer weekends.
Road is paved but narrow with passing places — perfectly manageable in a standard overlander but not a place to rush in bad weather or low visibility. Snow possible October through April. Best staging base is Kylesku or Lochinver, both within 20 minutes either side of the pass.
Raw Assynt geology at its most exposed.
