Moose Creek Territorial Campground — Dempster Highway
Moose Creek Territorial Campground is located on the Dempster Highway approximately 56 km north of its junction with the Klondike Highway, making it the first territorial campground encountered heading north from Dawson City. The setting is classic Dempster — open boreal, creek access, big sky. Fire rings and pit toilets on-site. It’s a natural first-night camp for rigs heading toward Eagle Plains, Tombstone, or the North Fork Pass, and sees a mix of overlanders, self-sufficient campers, and the occasional tour group in peak season.
The Dempster at this point is a well-graded gravel road, manageable for any high-clearance vehicle. Sharp shale can cut tires — run higher-ply sidewalls and carry spares. Creek water on-site but treat it. Zero cell signal. Fuel up fully in Dawson City before departing — Eagle Plains at km 369 is the only option north of here. Open late spring through fall freeze-up, with exact dates dependent on road conditions.
First camp north on the Dempster from Dawson.
