Bishop Creek Middle Fork Trailhead

Gateway to Dusy Basin and the John Muir Wilderness with parking for day hikes and backpacking expeditions.

This trailhead provides direct access to some of the Sierra’s most spectacular alpine terrain, including Dusy Basin and connections to the John Muir Trail. The parking area accommodates maybe 20-30 vehicles on gravel pullouts, with vault toilets and bear boxes for overnight backpackers. The trail starts steep and stays that way — this isn’t a casual stroll.

Accessible from late June through October in most years, though early season can mean snow at higher elevations. The access road is rough dirt for the final mile with some rocky sections that’ll test your undercarriage. No water at the trailhead, so come prepared.
