Engineer Creek Territorial Campground — Dempster Highway
Engineer Creek Territorial Campground sits along the Dempster Highway approximately 194 km north of the Klondike Highway junction, tucked into a creek valley in the Richardson Mountains. It’s a Yukon Government campground with basic amenities — pit toilets, fire rings, picnic tables — and it feels remote in the best way. The creek runs clear and cold through open boreal and shrub terrain. This is prime Dall sheep country; scan the slopes above camp and you’ve got a decent shot at spotting them. Grizzly activity is real up here — hang your food and run a clean camp.
Access via the Dempster is typically fine for any high-clearance rig, but the road north of here can get slick and greasy in rain — aired-down tires and a recovery kit are standard kit on this highway. Engineer Creek is your last developed camp before Eagle Plains Hotel roughly 35 km north. If you’re running the Midway Lake Road or pushing to the Northwest Territories border, this is where you sleep before the serious stuff starts. Open late May to mid-September depending on conditions.
Last developed camp before Eagle Plains going north.
