Dempster Highway — North Fork Pass Summit Viewpoint

Point of Interest

North Fork Pass is the Dempster Highway’s rooftop — alpine tundra in every direction, the Ogilvie Mountains rolling out to the horizon in shades of rust, ochre, and green depending on the season. It’s one of the most recognizable landscapes on any Canadian overland route: open, exposed, and deeply quiet once the dust settles behind your rig. The pass sits between Engineer Creek to the south and the Ogilvie River drainage to the north, making it a natural waypoint on the Engineer Creek Road loop runs and any Dempster through-trip.

No facilities. The road surface through the pass can be rough gravel or soft clay depending on recent weather — this is a section that punishes low-clearance rigs after rain. Sheep and caribou are commonly spotted on the slopes. Early September brings first snow at elevation; plan your timing accordingly.
