Tombstone Valley Campground — Tombstone Territorial Park

Established Campground

Tombstone Valley Campground sits at roughly Dempster Highway km 72, deep inside Tombstone Territorial Park. You’re camped on the taiga-tundra transition, the Tombstone peaks sharp and dark above you, ptarmigan wandering through camp like they own it. The Yukon government runs this place — it’s developed enough to have outhouses, bear-proof food storage lockers, and designated sites, but it never feels manicured. Busy in late August when the tundra goes full fire with autumn colour, and the light never fully leaves in July. Fires are restricted — bring a stove.

Access is straightforward: it’s directly on the Dempster, a short pull-off at the park visitor centre turnoff. The road is gravel all the way from the Klondike Highway junction. Season runs roughly late May through September depending on snowpack. Cell service is zero here — plan accordingly. Fuel up in Dawson City before you roll out; the next reliable stop is Eagle Plains, over 200 km north.
