Botanie Mountain FSR — Stein Divide Viewpoint
Botanie Mountain FSR climbs steeply out of the Thompson River valley near Lytton, eventually gaining enough elevation to put you on a ridge with unobstructed sightlines into the Stein Valley to the west and the dry Interior plateau to the east. There’s no formal viewpoint infrastructure here — just a wide spot on the road where overlanders stop to take it in. The contrast between the green canyon drainages and the brown benchlands is stark and legitimately impressive. It’s a good orientation point before or after running Stein Valley routes from the Lillooet side.
The FSR out of Lytton is rough in the lower sections — rocky and steep enough to want 4WD and decent clearance. Upper sections can be snow-covered through May and again by October. No services, no water, no cell. Lytton is your last fuel — small town, limited hours, confirm before you go.
