Carpenter Lake North Shore Road

Clifftop logging road above turquoise reservoir waters

Moderate

The north shore of Carpenter Lake runs where few dare to venture—a rough logging road carved into cliffsides above the turquoise reservoir waters. This route connects Bridge River Road to the lake’s eastern reaches, threading through old-growth cedar groves and crossing multiple creek systems via aging timber bridges. The road deteriorates significantly past the 15-kilometer mark, where washouts and rockfall create technical challenges around Anderson Creek crossing.

Moderate to difficult terrain demands high-clearance 4WD with skid plates essential for the rocky creek beds. Road conditions vary wildly with season—spring runoff makes crossings dangerous, while late summer exposes sharp bedrock. No services exist for 80+ kilometers, so pack extra fuel, water, and recovery gear. The reward is pristine backcountry camping along the shoreline and some of the Coast Mountains’ most untouched scenery.
