Ashley National Forest Sheep Creek Canyon Dispersed Sites

Dispersed Camping

A handful of primitive sites scattered along the first 3 miles of Sheep Creek Canyon Road, tucked between dramatic limestone cliffs that rise 800 feet from the creek bottom. Sites accommodate 1-2 rigs each with decent spacing between spots, most with fire rings built by previous campers. Creek runs year-round providing reliable water source, though filter recommended. Gets busy on summer weekends with local hunters and fishermen.

Access via rough dirt road requiring high-clearance vehicle, especially after mile 2 where rocks and ruts increase. Road becomes impassable when wet. No facilities or services — pack everything out. Best spring through fall, can be snowed in December through March.
