Sheyenne National Grassland Spring Creek Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

This remote dispersed area sits in the heart of the Sheyenne National Grassland, where Spring Creek meanders through restored tallgrass prairie. A dozen informal sites spread along the creek bottom, most suitable for smaller rigs due to soft ground near the water. The surrounding grassland rolls on for miles — this is what North Dakota looked like before the plow. Wildlife viewing is excellent, especially for grassland birds and white-tailed deer.

Access requires navigating a maze of minimum-maintenance township roads — GPS coordinates are essential. Roads are passable for any vehicle when dry but can become impassable in wet conditions. No facilities whatsoever, and cell service is nonexistent. Creek water requires treatment but flows year-round except in severe drought.
