Ottawa National Forest Pomeroy Lake Road Dispersed Sites
This forgotten corner of Ottawa National Forest provides dispersed camping along old Pomeroy Lake Road, a remnant mining access route. Sites scatter along the road’s final 2 miles, most tucked in mixed hardwood forest with a few offering glimpses of small Pomeroy Lake. The area sees minimal traffic — mainly locals fishing for northern pike and the occasional hunter. Natural fire rings and level spots for 1-2 rigs per site.
Access requires navigating a maze of unmarked forest roads west of Crystal Falls — GPS essential. The final approach is rough two-track requiring high-clearance and potentially 4WD after rain. No facilities whatsoever, and cell service is nonexistent. Bring everything including water, and be prepared for true backcountry camping.
