Ottawa National Forest Iron Lake Dispersed Sites
Hidden along Iron Lake’s northern shore, six primitive sites offer direct water access through towering white pines and paper birch. The lake runs deep and clear with excellent fishing for pike and bass. Sites feature basic fire rings and flat tent pads, though RV camping is possible with careful positioning. Loons nest here in spring, providing haunting calls at dawn and dusk. Bring everything including water — this is true backcountry.
The last 4 miles wind through dense forest on rough two-track with deep ruts and fallen timber. High-clearance 4WD essential. Road becomes impassable during spring mud season, typically April through mid-May.
