Ochoco National Forest Mill Creek Wilderness Dispersed Sites
Mill Creek offers cooler refuge from Central Oregon’s high desert with dispersed sites scattered through ponderosa and fir stands at 4,500-5,500 feet elevation. Sites line old logging roads and creek drainages, most with natural clearings and established fire rings. Popular with hunters in fall and hikers accessing the Mill Creek Wilderness. Gets busy during archery season but otherwise sees light use.
Access from Prineville via Forest Road 33 (Mill Creek Road) — good gravel surface suitable for any vehicle the first 10 miles, then rougher as you climb. Some sites require 4WD for final approach. Snow typically blocks upper elevations November-April. Creek provides reliable water most of the year, but treat before drinking.
