Icicle Creek Road to Snow Lakes
Granite gateway to the Enchantments high country
This high-country access road climbs from Leavenworth’s orchard valleys into the granite heart of the Enchantments, where Icicle Creek carves through polished stone and ancient forest. The route starts as maintained gravel but transitions to rough jeep track beyond the Snow Lakes trailhead, with several creek crossings and exposed granite sections that demand careful tire placement. Bridge Creek crossing at mile 8 is the technical crux — a rocky ford that can rage during snowmelt.
Stock 4WD with skid plates handles most conditions, but high clearance is essential for the final 3 miles of granite slabs and embedded boulders. Best accessed July through October when creek levels drop and snow clears the higher elevations. No permits required for the road itself, but expect crowds at popular trailheads. The payoff is direct access to some of Washington’s most stunning alpine terrain, with dispersed camping opportunities and world-class granite climbing.
