Okanogan National Forest Tiffany Mountain Road
Technical climb to wildflower paradise
This punishing climb hauls you 3,000 feet up Washington’s Tiffany Mountain through some of the most technical terrain in the Okanogan Highlands. The route starts deceptively easy through ponderosa pine before unleashing a series of loose rock steps that’ll test your line choice and throttle control. At Freezeout Ridge, wildflower meadows explode in July with lupine, paintbrush, and bear grass stretching toward North Cascades peaks.
Difficult rating demands modified 4WD with skid plates—stock rigs will donate oil pans to the granite shelves above Clark Creek. Best attempted July through September when snow clears the upper reaches. No water sources exist beyond the trailhead, so pack heavy. Cell service vanishes after mile 3, but dispersed camping at Tiffany Spring rewards the effort with sunrise alpenglow on Mount Gardner and unobstructed stargazing at 6,800 feet.
