Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest — Chewuch Campground

Established Campground

Chewuch sits along the Chewuch River about 6 miles north of Winthrop on Chewuch Road (FR 51), with 16 sites tucked under ponderosa pine and cottonwood. It’s a legitimate river-access camp — you can hear the water from every site. Expect vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. Gets busy on summer weekends but is mostly a local and Methow-valley-loop crowd. No hookups, no reservations — first come, first served. Fee site.

Chewuch Road turns to good gravel above camp and eventually connects into the upper Methow drainage toward Billy Goat Mountain. High-clearance rigs heading to Hart’s Pass or the Slate Peak corridor often stage here the night before pushing up toward Mazama. Season roughly May through October depending on snowpack.

River camp before the Hart's Pass push.
