Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest — Tiffany Lake Campground
Tiffany Lake Campground sits at the end of Forest Road 39 in the Okanogan highlands, a solid hour of gravel north of Winthrop. The lake is small and clear, ringed by subalpine fir and open meadow. Expect primitive conditions: vault toilet, no piped water, room for maybe a dozen rigs. It’s not a secret in July and August, but shoulder season — late June or September — you’ll likely have it to yourself. Black bears are active up here; hang your food.
FR 39 is passable for high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions but rutted and slow. Mud season can push access requirements toward 4WD. Snow can close the road through late May or earlier in big winters. No fee, 14-day stay limit. This is a legit base camp for Tiffany Mountain trails and the broader Tiffany area ridge roads.
