Green Ridge Road
Cascade Range views from volcanic ridge spine
Green Ridge Road runs 27 miles along the knife-edge volcanic spine between Sisters and the Metolius River, offering some of Central Oregon’s most dramatic high-country views. This well-maintained gravel road climbs to 4,800 feet where lookout points reveal the entire Cascade Range — Mount Hood, Jefferson, and the Three Sisters line up like sentinels. The route passes active fire lookouts and connects to dozens of primitive camping spots tucked into old-growth ponderosa stands along the ridge.
Any high-clearance vehicle handles this moderate route easily, though 4WD helps in winter conditions. Prime season runs May through October — winter brings snow and seasonal closures. No permits required and dispersed camping is allowed throughout the corridor. Fill up in Sisters and pack plenty of water; services are non-existent along the ridge. This is Central Oregon at its scenic best, accessible enough for most rigs but remote enough to feel like discovery.
