French Creek State Park Hopewell Road Dispersed Area
A handful of informal camping spots tucked along the old Hopewell Furnace access roads in French Creek State Park’s backcountry. These sites sit in mixed hardwood forest with decent privacy between spots, popular with hunters in fall and mountain bikers year-round. No facilities whatsoever — pack it in, pack it out. Fire rings are user-built; check current fire restrictions before lighting up.
Access via Hopewell Road from the main park entrance, then follow the unmarked dirt tracks that branch off toward the old charcoal hearth ruins. Road surface is decent gravel for the first mile, then gets rougher. Sites fill up during hunting season and nice weather weekends. No cell service in most spots.
