Estancia La Oriental Historic Ranch

This working sheep ranch 40km east of El Calafate sits on the shores of Lago Argentino with views across to the Andes. The estancia welcomes overlanders with designated camping areas near the main buildings, basic facilities, and the chance to join traditional lamb roasts when groups are staying. The setting is pure Patagonia — windswept grasslands, endless sky, and the kind of silence that makes you understand why gauchos chose this life.

Access is via a well-maintained gravel road off Ruta 11. The estancia operates year-round but lamb roasts typically happen November through March when weather allows outdoor cooking. Reservations recommended during peak season as the ranch limits camping to maintain the working operation.
