Quebrada de las Señoritas Multicolor Circuit
Rainbow canyons and ancient rock art showcase
The Quebrada de las Señoritas cuts through sedimentary layers laid down over 250 million years, creating canyon walls striped in every color from deep purple to blazing orange. This geological showcase near Talampaya National Park follows an old cattle trail through narrow gorges where indigenous peoples carved petroglyphs into red sandstone faces. The route requires multiple stream crossings and threading between towering spires of eroded rock, with the highlight being the Mirador de los Colores overlook where the entire canyon spreads out like a painter’s palette.
Stock high-clearance vehicles can handle this moderate route, though the stream crossings demand careful line selection and can become impassable after heavy rains. Dry season from April to October offers the most reliable conditions and best light for photography. No permits needed, but bring plenty of water and sun protection—shade is scarce between canyon walls. The payoff is some of Argentina’s most spectacular geological scenery and excellent dispersed camping beneath billion-year-old stone formations that dwarf your rig.
