Cerro de Punta to Doña Juana Falls Road

This rugged mountain route starts at the communications towers atop Cerro de Punta (4,390 feet) and drops through dense cloud forest to the remote Doña Juana Falls. The road follows an old forest service track that becomes increasingly technical as it descends, with loose rock sections and deep ruts carved by mountain runoff. You’ll pass through several elevation zones, from the cool mountaintop pine plantations down through thick tropical vegetation where the sound of rushing water signals your approach to the 100-foot waterfall.

This is a difficult trail requiring high-clearance 4WD and experience with loose rock and steep descents. The route can be treacherous in wet conditions when clay sections become slippery. Best attempted during the dry season (December-April), though afternoon rain showers are always possible in the mountains. No permits required, but fuel up in Ponce before heading up. The reward is one of Puerto Rico’s most spectacular waterfalls and panoramic views across the Cordillera Central that few tourists ever see.
