Þórsmörk Highland Bus Terminal
This gravel lot serves as the turnaround point for highland buses and the jumping-off spot for hiking into Þórsmörk proper. Basic shelter and toilets available, plus a small hut selling snacks and maps. The terminal sits at the confluence of several glacial rivers, with the main valley trails beginning just beyond. Spectacular mountain views on clear days.
Accessible only by modified 4WD vehicles with serious ground clearance or highland buses from Reykjavík. Multiple river crossings on F249 with depths varying by season and recent rainfall. The final approach involves driving through Krossá river, which can be knee-deep. Many overlanders park here and hike rather than risk the crossings. Open roughly June through September depending on conditions.
