Crystal Springs Campground Ash Meadows
Tucked into Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, this small campground offers 23 sites with picnic tables and fire rings in an unlikely desert oasis setting. Natural springs feed the area, creating pockets of green vegetation and supporting endangered pupfish. Sites are well-spaced with some shade from mesquite and desert willow trees. No hookups or showers, but vault toilets and potable water from the springs.
Popular with Death Valley visitors who want a quieter base camp than Furnace Creek. Reserve ahead for winter months when snowbirds flock here. Road in is paved but the last few miles can be washboardy. Gates close at sunset, so plan accordingly.
