Michaux State Forest Pine Grove Furnace Dispersed Area
A string of informal camping spots spread along Mountain Creek Road in the heart of Michaux State Forest. Sites range from single-tent clearings to areas that can handle a truck and trailer. Most sit in mixed pine and oak forest with decent spacing between camps. The historic Pine Grove Furnace area is a short walk away, and you’ll see occasional Appalachian Trail hikers passing through.
Mountain Creek Road is passable by most vehicles but gets muddy after heavy rain. No facilities or marked sites — you’re looking for obvious pull-offs and fire rings left by previous campers. Water can be drawn from Mountain Creek but should be treated. Popular during hunting seasons and summer weekends.
