Ruta de los Cenotes Quintana Roo Jungle Circuit

Hidden cenotes and Mayan ruins in deep jungle

Moderate

This network of dirt roads cuts through dense Yucatecan jungle between the coast and ancient Mayan trade routes, connecting over 20 cenotes (freshwater sinkholes) scattered through the forest. The route follows logging roads and ancient sacbeob (stone causeways) past ruined temples, abandoned chicle camps, and underground river systems. Key stops include Cenote Siete Bocas with its massive chamber and Cenote Verde Lucero where jungle vines drop 60 feet to crystal-clear water. You’ll cross paths with local cenote guides on motorcycles and occasional jaguarundi in the thick canopy.

Easy to moderate driving on dirt and gravel, suitable for any high-clearance vehicle though mud can be deep during rainy season (May-October). Many cenotes charge small access fees and some require guides. Bring snorkel gear, cash, and respect for sacred Mayan sites. Dry season (November-April) offers best road conditions but expect tour groups at popular cenotes. This is your chance to swim in underground cathedrals and camp in genuine jungle away from Cancun’s madness, following routes the ancient Maya traveled a thousand years ago.
