Playa Maroma Beach Camping
A relatively undeveloped section of the Riviera Maya where you can still camp directly on the beach under coconut palms. Several informal camping areas exist along this stretch, most with basic palapas for shade and some with rudimentary facilities. The beach faces east into the Caribbean with turquoise water and decent snorkeling on the reef just offshore. Gets busy on weekends but maintains a laid-back vibe compared to the resort zones to the north and south.
Access via dirt roads off Highway 307 — look for beach access signs around km 306-308. Road conditions vary from decent gravel to sandy tracks depending on recent maintenance. Some areas charge modest camping fees to local ejidos, others operate on donations. Water and supplies available in nearby Maroma village or the highway.
